I dumped the oil on my bx2200 and put in 2.7 qts of oild as per the book. I did change the filter as well. I fired it up and ran it a few minutes, checked for leaks and checked the dipstick. It was low. The tractor holds more like 3.7 quarts if you go by the dipstick.
Which is correct? The book or the stick? I'm leaning towards the safe side and goiong by the stick. Also, is 15/40 oil OK in the Kubota 3 cyl or do you need to use 10/30 diesel oil?

I ran into the identical scenario with my 50 hour maintenance on my BX22. I filled it to the level on the dipstick (just under 3.5 qts.). Not that long ago on this website someone else noted the same thing so I figured it was an oversite on Kubota's behalf. ....

I have run into this with my B-8200....for years (19 yrs) I have put 4.3 quarts of engine oil in when changing, as per manual....but this over fills according to the dip stick...it is about one inch over the full mark! For years I asked dealer and never got a good answer....that tractor has over 3000 hrs on it and still runs like new..... ....

CTGUY, 15w-40 sounds a little thick for a BX.
I have the same engine in my RTV and 10w-40 is the heaviest oil recommended.
Use any oil with a CD, CE or CF rating on the label. If that rating is not present the oil is meant for use only in gasoline powered engines.
I would use the dipstick as the ultimate guide as to how much oil to add. ....

I second Marks advice. Go with the dip stick reading and in the mean time run this question by your dealer just to be sure you have the bases covered. ....

The dealer here is CT, F&W, is pretty clueless. The parts guy looks at you like a DEERE in the headlights anytime you ask for anything. They only like people with big machines. I'll lay off the 15 weight oil. I figured it would be ok for the summer. I just changed it yesterday but I'll dump it out this week. Thanks for the advice...Jim ....

WhAT if I had filled my 8200 for 19 years up to the dipstick full level? I truely have put 4.3 qts of oil in every oil change....and I promise you, it is at least 1 inch above the full level.......If I had filled it up to full level on dipstick do you think it might have also worked?....I just know what I am telling you here is the TRUTH.......Or mabye if you overfill these engines it does not hurt....hard to believe! ....

In a ideal world the 2 would be perfect.
The new guy on the assembly line doesn't know which part bin to pull from.
Parts ran out of stock on the correct dipstick and the stock room subistuted something close.
Someone in translations mixed up liters and qts.
Someone swapped them on the lot to be funny.
Check the lenght of the dip stick against the manfactures newest part listings for your model and serial #.
Over fill is very bad anywhere. Underfill is bad if you operate on slopes. ....
